Rabbi Schechter is a Musmach of Yeshiva Torah VoDaath having received a Yoreh Yoreh Smicha in 1985 and a Yadin
Yadin Smicha in 1988, both from HaRav Avraham Pam, ZT"L. He also received a Masters Degree in Computer Science
from NYU - Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in 1985. Since leaving Kollel in 1989 Rabbi Schechter & Ruchie
have served pulpits in Oceanside and Merrick on Long Island and in Fair Lawn, New Jersey before taking over the
Rabbinic Leadership of Congregation Ohr Moshe in 2001. Rabbi Schechter served as a member of Agudas HaRabonim and
as a member and officer of the Young Israel Council of Rabbis. Rabbi Schechter also served as the 12th grade Halacha
instructor at Shevach High School for Girls (where he won the Gruss Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2002).
Currently he serves on Shevach's Vaad Hachinuch, and he serves as the Rav HaMachshir at the Bagel Boss chain and
several other establishments in Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island & NYC. Ruchie and the Rabbi also run a small
computer software and service company specializing in Estate, Trust & Guardianship Court Accountings from their home
office.
Rabbi Schechter's grandfather was HaGaon HaRav Eliezer Zev Kirzner ZT"L of Bnei Yehuda Shul in Boro Park, a world
renowned Talmid Chacham who instilled within him the love for Rabbanus. Ruchie's father is Rabbi Peretz Steinberg,
Shlita, of Young Israel of Queens Valley, under whose tutelage and in whose Shul the Schechters gained much valuable
experience.
Ruchie and the Rabbi are blessed with 6 children, a daughter-in-law, 4 sons-in-law, and 17 grandchildren kayn yirbu, ka"h.
